Tighten-Hold-Release

Yesterday I mentioned doing Kegel exercises, and I very quickly mentioned how to do them. Today I will be going into more detail about how and why keeping your pubococcygeus (pc) muscles tight and strong is a good and necessary thing. Also, other things that can be added in addition to doing Kegels.

First off: Why is it important to exercise your pc muscles? These muscles (also referred to as your abdominal floor muscles) are responsible for more than orgasm (though they are fundamental to have an orgasm, and the stronger the pc muscles the better the orgasm). They also control your urine flow. If you leak a little urine when you cough, sneeze, or laugh it most likely means that your pc muscles are weak. Often, while you are pregnant, after you have a baby, or as you age these muscles become weakened and you begin to have trouble with incontinence. Doing Kegel exercises can help re-firm these muscles so you can be in control again.

Next: How to do Kegels and how often. To do a Kegel simply tighten the muscles in your vagina, the same way you would if you were peeing and had to stop mid-stream. Then hold for 5 seconds, and then relax them slowly. That's it! The best thing is that you can do this ANYWHERE at anytime. No one will know you're doing them (unless of course you get a funny look on your face). Most 'experts' say to do 5 to 10 sets of tighten-hold-release, 2 to 3 times a day when you first start.

Lastly: What else can we do to keep our pc muscles tight? In addition to Kegel exercises, you can use Ben Wa balls. Passion Parties has their own brand of these special balls call Pleasure Pearls ( you can buy them for $21). Ben Wa balls usually come in sets of 2 and vary in size to fit your comfort level. They are lightly weighted metallic balls that are inserted in the vagina. Ben Wa balls can also be used during intercourse. I suggest you read more on them for sex here. But as far as exercise goes, in order to keep them in you must tighten your pc muscles (like doing a continuous Kegel) for as long as you leave them in. Its a bit like a power walker using ankle weights. But, if you find that regular Kegels aren't giving you the desired results I highly recommend Ben Wa balls.
